Why Autumn is the Best Season

Summer is lovely; the warmth, the flowers, the dresses. But for me, it can’t compare to Autumn. The worry of sleepless nights in too hot to bear conditions, the constant watering of the garden, and the anxiety of showing so much pale flesh to the world, all disappears as the leaves begin to fall.

The scandi buzzword of the last few years sums up the joy of Autumn for me – Hygge. If you haven’t heard of it, let me explain (just don’t ask me to pronounce it correctly)…

Hygge is a Danish well-being concept which roughly translates to 'the feeling of contentment and cosiness'. Type it into Pinterest and you’ll come across hundreds of pictures that make you want to cuddle up in front of a roaring fire with a mug of hot chocolate. It’s associated with many objects and scenes typical of Autumn. Here are some Hygge reasons to delight in the season;

Autumnal Trees

Naturally Splendid

Every year the leaves amaze me with their colours on display, from red and orange to yellow and gold, it’s stunning. A brisk country walk in the fresh air is invigorating but not as cold or dark as winter. Simple pleasures.

Jumpers and Knits

Who doesn’t like to indulge in their favourite food and drink without the worry of showing the consequential weight gain? Covered up in cosy jumpers and coats, big Sunday roasts and cocoa drinks can be consumed without bikini-body regret. Wrapped up in woollen blankets with a hot water bottle and a book feels so right. Read by candlelight to make it extra special.

Christmas Anticipation

I admit it. I am one of those people excited about Christmas now. What’s not to love? It’s such a joyful time of year, full of friends, family and food! Autumn is a time you can look forward and enjoy the build-up, but without the craziness of December. Keep Calm and stock up on chocolate “sharing” boxes.

Fireworks and Sweets

I’m such a kid when it comes to fireworks. As soon as I hear one, I rush to the nearest window. Dazzling colours and smoky smells. It being only a couple of days after the fun and silliness of Halloween allows you to watch the sky sparkles whilst stuffing your face with sweeties. Well, they can’t aaallll be for the trick-or-treaters, can they?

So get your Hygge on! Forget Summer and embrace the new season with your fluffy socks and woodburners : )
